Sure, though I’m not in that next of the UWS very often. If I hear something of note is happening I’ll take a trek.
The old synagogue is largely demolished. Because of the fencing it’s difficult to see the progress from the street. But the portions of the building that used to be above the scaffolding are gone as the top picture indicates. And if you look carefully at the bottom picture you can see sunlight behind the barriers. Clearly the entire interior has now been demolished. The site should be cleared fairly soon.
More demo progress is now visible. Top image is the interior. Below that is the southern wall most of which is now gone.
Nice photos, Chused
Great shots, Chused.
Pls snap some photos of B’Way and 92nd the next time you’re up there.
Excavation has just begun along, of course, with demolition of the basement levels of the now gone synagogue.
nice update chused
I agree. Great photos , Chused.
Looks like a zoning lot challenge will be filed on 200 Amsterdam within the next week. See:
Meanwhile, the work is in a between stage according to a construction worker. He says foundation work should begin very soon but they have to get all the sign offs on the demo first. The site looks post-demo with sloped sides to prevent cave ins while awaiting foundation contractor to appear.
Awesome? Chickens aren’t counted yet. Zoning challenge may turn out to be very interesting given the very unusual zoning lot layout. On the face of it the deal looks very odd.
I just read the zoning challenge recently filed on this project. It can be found at http://www.westsiderag.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/200_amsterdam_zoning_challenge.pdf. From my read I would not count on this building going forward any time soon. There are some powerful issues raised and it may not be resolved quickly. In addition those raising the challenge seem well funded and likely to mount a court challenge if zoning authorities continue to approve the project. It’s going to be an interesting land use dispute with possible repercussions on future projects in the city attempting to use gerrymandered zoning lots to increase density.
