That is quite some engineering feat just to create a podium unobstructed by structural steel. It really shows that despite the simplicity of the towers, Brookfield are going all out to provide the best quality final product they can.

It’s actually out of necessity. The narrow core sits on solid ground, but rest of the building overlaps with Penn Station’s active rail yard below. They couldn’t put any columns down between the tracks, so the core has to support the entire building.

I can’t believe how great the recladded stump looks. I remember parking at a lot right next to it for a knicks game…I believe one of the towers is rising on the former lot.
